How It Started
When I retired from teaching arts and crafts in adult education I took the opportunity to improve some of my skills (ceramics)
and to learn a new one (glassblowing). I lived in a condominium in Honolulu but had nowhere I could work on the many projects
I wanted to do.
I moved to the Big Island of Hawai'i and finally had space and time for all of the things I loved and I began collecting
tools with the idea of fulfilling a dream from long ago to build a scale dolls house. I had even purchased and stored many
miniature furniture kits with the plan that one day I would have the chance to build them, That day was finally here.
I bought a book with plans for 3 styles of house and chose the Victorian which I started building from scratch. I made
so many mistakes that I have had to correct, but I was fortunate to find a group on the internet where I could ask questions
and get answers, and slowly I have learned many new skills.
And Then There was GSOLFOT
Through that group I was lucky enough to see an interesting signature with a strange set of letters. . . GSOLFOT! Wondering
what they meant I contacted Noni Allen, the person who used this signature and learned about the Green Sock on Left Foot on
Tuesdays Club! Not only did the members of this group make artisan quality miniatures but they were a bit out of the ordinary
to say the least with only a hint of the insanity that reigns!
I was accepted for membership and was allowed to choose a title and since I have been disorganized all my life I became
the Minister of MUCH Disorganization. I later added Goddess of Chaos which truly describes me!
In "the Towers" I found a fantasy world of castles, dragons, virtual travel both in time and in space and it
seems the whimsy in our virtual lives spills over into the wonderful miniatures created here,
The most important thing about this group though is that members get to truly know each other and GSOLFOT has become an
extended family for most of us. There is so much support and caring within this group and it has become one of the most important
parts of my life!
And There is More
One of the problems living on an island is that there are not
a lot of people who are interested in miniatures here. After a long 7 years of thinking I was alone I found not just one
but three people who wanted to start a mini club! We exhibited some of our work at a Train and Dolls Show in Hilo and gained
a few more interested people. We have now grown to 8 members and are looking forward to participating in another Show in
December of 2007.
The End Result
The encouragement from members of both of these groups has given me the push I needed to try on line sales and my own web
site. I hope you find it pleasant and interesting.
